i was hesitated. pondering the the consequences of to take and not to take. it really took me few days to think (without understanding more about the medicine)...
when i finally started on the first day, she fussed over the incremental frequent use of milk bottle and no latching on me for milk; i was, on the other hand, absolutely miserable for a sleepless night for:
- warming up the milk from the fridge (my precious storage); bottle feed her and clean the bottle;
- pumping and throwing the breast milk; clean the pump and container.
i become zombie in the office the next day.
but visited Jade meimei's blog and an advice from Mummy Ariel trigger my curiosity (stupid mum lost her curiosity!) to find out more about my illness, the prescription and breastfeeding.
i rang the doctor again to double assure that the antibiotic is really safe for me to breast feed baby bomber. i surfed to read more too.
the true is, "...Nitrofurantoin appears in trace amounts in breast milk. Nursing mothers should take this medication with caution only after the potential benefits have been weighed against the risks to the nursing infant."
so how? how to weigh the invisible?
i then decided to take "the middle road", throw away those i expressed in daytime (when i am in office), nurse baby bomber directly at night.
Hi pc,
ReplyDeleteReturning to visit your blog after saw you left message at my blog. U did the right things.. continue pump (to maintain the milk supply) although you know u got to sacrify the milk .. once your recovery.. you can feed your bb fully again. :)
Happy breastfeeding. :D
not jade but jade's mummy said...
ReplyDeleteas mentioned, there is a whole list of antibiotics that are ok for breastfeeding. urinary tract infection is quite a common illness and I suppose there should be more than one kind of antibiotics that can treat it.
seriously, I think you should go to another GP the next time. Some doctors are just not so into breastfeeding and dont' really bother to find alternatives for you. and they just don't understand what we go thru' when we have to throw away our milk.
Hi PC, hope u are fine by now.
ReplyDeleteOh dear! So sorry to hear about all that you've been going through. So tough! Hope you recover soon, will keep ya in prayer!
ReplyDeletewhen i was breastfeeding my twins, i nvr stop till they were 2 years old (meaning whthr i on medication or nt..i still continue to feed). So far i didnt encounter any problems with all my 4 kids whom i breastfed even though I'm sick. Good luck!
