Follow Me in IG~!

Long hiatus in blogging, while fill-up my time with adequate sleeps and exploring other things in life... trying to make life more meaningful in another way.

In the meantime, hop over to my newly set-up Instagram site- @_miscjoys_, follow me and say hi! (if you have not).

I have just reached 9 posts in Instagram! I think it is a good way to mini-blog, scribble thoughts from my head quick and in a light manner.

2015 in (very brief) Review

As the year is approaching to its end, I am looking back at my grand-list that I wrote in February. Thankfully, most are stroke off from the list:-
  • My family and I had a remarkable trip to UK. But I only manage to complete blogging on Scotland.
  • I learn and relearn about my first born. I mellow my approach on her, I try to focus on life skill than academic. I need to learn to embrace her.
  • I have been attending Yoga/Pilates classes regularly since the very beginning of the year. I no longer breathless when I climb more than 2 flights of stairs.
  • I cook more, bake even more!
  • I maybe scrapbook lesser but hey, I blog more too, thanks to the inspiration from our visit to Scotland.
I think I have an optimum year!

I Didn't Throw it Away

I used to draw a lot when I was young, before the world was cyberised.

Growing up in a big city, we didn't spend our childhood outdoor freely. Most of the time, besides playing with my siblings at home, I spent most of my free time seating down on my desk and holding the pencil to draw, to sketch, and brushes to paint. There must the innocent soul of mine in believing myself of having some sort of magical power to visualise and decode 3D into 2D. I was not afraid of wrong doing onto the drawing pad.

A Brand New Year

Hello there!

How is your 2014 thus far? I am not any less fun than before. Work is still hectic and I am still huffing and puffing everyday, after-work to race with time to pick up my daughters from the babysitter as shorter time as I could. I think, I am doing much better this year: For the past 18 days of working, I have not exceeded 6.30pm to first see Bomber's cheerful smile.  *Give my self a pat of the back.
Porridge as dinner, just because they love it.

Cooking is part of the routine now. Big part of the routine. Simple food though, at least three out of five. Being away from home, cooking probably is a way for me to recuperate from homesick, to recur my childhood memories. I guess, I am building and storing the girls' too.

As my first born is P3 now, we battle more. Yes, the battle hymn of another tiger mother and the daughter. I always at the exhausted state when dealing with her study after dinner, so is she. We often end up with crash and crash and bang! It is unbearable to see my angel turn into a scary monster. So much as I come to a realisation that I am my parents but she is not me. Old generation harsh parenting may worked on me, it doesn't mean works on her. Whatever happens to her now is partly my mistake of parenting. I have been pondering and trying to change. It is harder than I thought. Fortunately, at this stage the daddy could take over, I step back and manage the house chores, or one-to-one with Bomber.

Those are our weekday. Our hectic weekdays. Less impact on little Bomber though. She is attending PCF Nursery Class, has her meal and rest fixed at the babysitter's place, joyfully plays with her sister when they reunion in the afternoon.

The Hiatus

We started the year with Little Bomber attending 2 hours playgroup daily. It took me a ride of roller coaster with her and her temperament. No, more of walking in the landmine, explosive and threatening for the rest of her life, or mine. Thanks to Jennifer, I managed to think of a solution and overcome her resistant to new routine. She has been least headache since then, except for her explosive behavior occasionally.

That said, I have bigger headache to deal with: mothering the older child who's been yelling and wanting to run away from homework. She is P2, and it is getting tougher with higher expectation from the school. Recently, she is required to attend remedial class after school once a week. Obviously she is being remarked as weak, particularly in Mathematics. We are grateful that the teacher is willing to put extra time and effort on her.

A tiny part of me frown with that, if you must know. Being P1 or P2 myself, I was good, not smart or great, but good and loved to crack my head to understand what teacher taught and solved the equation. She, however, doesn't like thinking. "Don't know" and "Don't understand" often utter out from her mouth immediately. But I already taught her and she did the simple equation right yesterday! She doesn't see learning and overcome a difficulty is fun to do. Every night, SC and I take turns to coach her, but it seems more like have fighting show of jungle beasts at home. I often wonder what and how will she turn to in few years time, judging from her current temperament and attitude. I worry.

Interestingly, work place is becoming more complicated place to work in. Some human being are tough to convince and some are smart to twist boss' words to make it more convincing. Somehow, both are trying not to take up more tasks, in my opinion. Those fall out of the above categories, like me, take a longer time to mitigate problem and complete task. Still, conflicts occurred. This takes me longer time to repair my self after work, cause it has the unavoidable impact of not liking to deal with the world another minute.

Slowly, I skip making time to word my thought, to unpeel the emotion and call it a day as soon as I'm done with the above, and dish-washing and housekeeping. The fighting, is a great force for me to stick my head into running water, just to ease myself and get ready to switch off my mind. I doze off soon after the girls are tucked in. I lost the momentum to write. The thought of closing this space popped up several time. The most convincing part of not writing any more is, I'm not good at it.

But that thought dampen my spirit. No blogging means that I lost the power to turn my struggles to words and unpeel the layers of emotion to see the source of things. I will lose a way to boost my self with positive energies. I will lose friends too, especially from SMB, a community where I find my self instantly fit in the land to talk about struggles and joy as a mother. Love the humors and kindness of them. No blogging somehow leads to no reminder, no laugh, no craziness or whatsoever during the day when I am frustrated.

It will be lonely journey and i will move on with less fortitude.

Admittedly, this post is here to rescue me.

Thankful 2012 (II)

Part II of Thankful Today for... I have to do it this way: browse through my entire album for the year and collate them accordingly.

Most of you already know that I took a pay cut and work shorter hour this year. In the name of the children, so called. While I try to balance my life between work and family, I fail to get rid of the ever-present self-defeating feeling. My temper is shorter, energy level reduces faster each day, wrinkles is rooting. Just few days ago, I can't help it but shed a few tears in the platform of a MRT station while waiting for transit, alone, ignoring strange looking of others. It was not something huge happening, but enough to trigger my frustration and finally I don't feel like holding up my tears anymore.

It lasted for very short moment. As much as 11 miss-calls from SC. He certainly pick me up from the floor fast, soothingly too. My life is fraught if without him. He is never in denial of my decision, my mood and my nonsense. He is probably Gandalf to me.

I reckon there is a reason for everything happens. Every kid-filled moments in my life is suppose to strengthen me, but sometime, I'm tired of it. Tired of being frowned too long. It's not healthy.

So here I am, once again, looking into another set of my photos (Instagram, that is) and telling my self that, I am doing well, there isn't a dull moment of my life.

I should be grateful.

20121109/Small: Small girl versus small KLCC Twin Tower. One day, I will bring you to see the big one.

20121201/2012: Smile of the year: Jiejie won a metal from a Wushu Competition. It is a big achievement for all of us!

20120615/Someone: My mum is someone very special to me.

20121221/Celebration: Our simple celebration of Winter Solstice: mixing glutinous rice flour with water and oil, rolling the dough and making rice balls. I intend to keep this as family tradition.

20121222/Room: Wushu training room, that is. And this day, little sister decided to join the class to stretch body for few minutes.

20121015/What is ahead: Certainly hope for another awesome year ahead!

I have more merry moments than gloom. We all do, don't we.

Happy 2013 to all, especially moms!

Thankful 2012

I had the same question as Galadriel, "Why halfling?" And this struck me immediately:
"Saruman believes itis only great power that can hold evil in check, but that is not what I havefound. I found it is the small everyday deeds of ordinary folk that keep thedarkness at bay. Small acts of kindness and love. Why Bilbo Baggins? Perhapsbecause I am afraid, and he gives me courage." - Gandalf, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.
I can't agree more. And I suddenly realised that, there are many small everyday deeds around me, to remind me that life isn't always gloomy and difficult. I should not take those small little deeds for granted, they are most deserved my gratitude.

I am suppose to do Thankful Today for December, but decided to look back the entire 2012, pick our small everydaydeeds (according to to the list) and collate them to count the blessings as weapproach the end of 2012. Small little deeds that was captured by SC (mostly) and now browsed by me for collation for the year, just to remind me that, these are the small little deeds that pick myself up quick enough to continue move on.

20120103/Beginning: She is embarking a new chapter of her life. Small body with the smallest size  uniform that we could get for her. Nope, she didn't excel in her study but she sure have lots of fun in the school.

20120124/Clean: The girls are sweeping the dried leaves forgetting ready a great celebration of Chinese New Year. One of the simple gesture that would remind me to grab a seat and watch they interact or completing a task.

20121014/Read: Finally, she is able to read on her own andenjoy the moment of reading.

20120212/Light: Sun light witnesses their happiness in the playground.

20120212/Smile: Playground brings them smile; smiles thatloosen my defense and tension.

20120423/Talk: We talk. Why this is not meimei(in thepicture)? Meaning talk with the little one. I'm glad SC captured this very little moment of ours. We looked very engaged...

20120123/Preparation: Putting up the cherry blossom, part of preparation to welcome the Lunar New Year and rejoicing family reunion.

20121028/View: Viewing from the bubbles, simple, small yet interestingattempt.

20120809/Family: I have to thank her, my mother-in-law for being very tolerance with grumpy-me, with mischievous granddaughters. She is one tough woman who will bite the bullet for the sake of her son and family.

20120529/Tree: It is one of those daunt days, one of the darkest day through the year. But one simple kind gesture from a colleague of mine immediately clears the gloom and doom. The tree brings me some luck somehow...

20120630/Write: I write heartedly more this year, bilingually. I am glad I joined in some of the linky party, did some guest blogs (listed on the right column of this blog) and co-write an article with SC for a travel magazine. I thank them for giving the opportunity that allow me write something that I wouldn't write if not because of them: Evelyn, Justina, Winnie and Ernie=).

20120103/Every day: Soup is a-must-have for every day’sdinner, and love how the little one decided to best enjoy the soup. Working part-time allows me to have time to cook hearty dinner for the family, most of the days.

20120122/Growth: They wake up from an afternoon nap andimmediately been asked to pose for daddy to snap. I love this shot a LOT. These eyes, are telling me, "Look mom! We grown up after a nap."

20121013/Blue: Jumping into the blue pool is a great way toforget what mama has nagged about just now. (We were in a family trip to Melacca)

20120325/Walk: Walking with an old friend in the foreign land, without the girls and husband, absolutely carefree and brings back so muchlaughter and memories between my friend and I. (It was the rare occasion that I get to go for a conference oversea and I took the liberty to visit a friend.)

Obviously, the girls are my Bilbo and they give me huge courage to never give-up. I also can't deny there are many other small, simple acts of kindness and love from people around me to keep the darkness at bay for me. I am THANKFUL for every moment of 2012.

[I do a wrap for each and every year in my blog. Check out my 20112010, didn't write for 2009 (was in miserable preggie stage), but sure did for 2008.]

The Journey of Motherhood

I was guest blogging over at Mum in the Making, one of those interesting mom blogs that constantly inspire me to never give up in motherhood. She was hosting "A Month of Motherhoodseparately in July and September. A group of moms shared their stories and, somehow, I signed up for it.

It took me a while to kick start the writing, surprisingly it given me a chance to have a deep look inside me, as a mother. When I thought I was done and submitted to Jus, those words bugged me that I should re-phrase the sentences here and there or I needed to add clarity here and there. The published version was the third submission, and actually countless of revision.

I hope you enjoy to read something about me, something I wrote wholeheartedly.
.............................................
Being a mother for coming to seven years, I realize that other parts of me are diminishing. I mean the crazy part of me, the adventurous part of me. I tend to think twice or thrice to an invitation, and say yes. I would often picture my girls in my mind if I have to consider any offer or move. Dreams that I used to have, are now far away, till I've forgotten what they were exactly. My plate as a mother is full, until zealousness decided to leave me alone with the children.

In retrospect, my transition to motherhood was sudden. It was massive, very massive. And critical too. It was C-section and the baby was pre-term. It was heart-breaking to see the little survivor lying in the incubator, attached to tubes and wires, watched over by a monitor that constantly flashed and bleeped. I was not expecting to take the roles and responsibilities as a mother with guilt, but I did. I took an unusual path to begin my motherhood journey. It came to my mind once that if my mum can do it (motherhood), I can too! Similarly and differently.

I became a kangaroo and a cow to the little one very quickly! I surfed the internet for answers to why my baby was in such a critical condition, I struggled through medical terminologies. I was told to look after my baby full time and I did. I became a radical by becoming a mother, remember the guilt? I would go insane for her skipping the afternoon nap, being fussy at food, or when someone condemned how I mothered my child.

The little survivor survived, growing, behaving like any other normal child, driving me up the wall. Of course, in any circumstance, I am thankful. She is one great survivor. She gave me a whole lot of courage to go for another pregnancy and give her a sibling, a full-term baby, who is giving me another set of awesomeness. I don’t call the younger sister Little Bomber for nothing.

It is interesting to look back, all the way back, to where I started my journey of motherhood. Both my girls are just fabulous for taking me along the ride of motherhood.  It is a long journey with a few life-altering moments, and full of surprises:

:: I stretch my brain cells, to be persuasive enough to ask my child to open her mouth to eat one more spoonful of food and another, and another and one more. Sometimes, I’m able to strategically distract a wild kid in public, without embarrassing myself. Sometimes, I think I am a genius to avoid war (between the child and I)!

:: I multitask: I eat peanut-butter sandwiches for breakfast, analysing a set of statistics in my working cubicle. Simultaneously, I call the school to confirm the upcoming excursion which my daughter had offered her mum as one of the parent volunteers. I produced a very happy morning.

:: I keep cooking really simple. I hunt for simple recipes that can stay in my brain for long. I can spontaneously, instantly cook, if my husband suddenly tells me for some reason, our plans to dine-out has to be cancelled. I am versatile!

:: I have an invisible book-keeper, for recording most rules, promises, punishments and rewards. This also comes with lots of bargains that make sense and are deemed acceptable to a seven-year-old girl or a two-year-old. The task of book-keeping is daunting, to be honest. Repetitive conversations like “MacDonalds for dinner tonight?” “Nope, we just went there three days ago. We can only go there at least once a week, remember?” “Then, how about KFC?” I think she wishes that her mom has short-term memory, so that she could eat her favourite French fries as frequently as possible.

:: I’m an unintentional stirrer to my second child’s temperament. “No” is not acceptable to her, but she gives us “No” all the time, except “Mommy”, which is an equation to “Drop everything and stick to me!” Sometimes, I wonder if it is karma, because I was rebellious and didn’t appreciate my mum.

:: I don’t like to be a mediator, but I have to be one. To suppress murderous feelings of one being victim and the other being the “aggressor”. For being fair and square in most cases of giving food, new clothes and toys, hugs and kisses, time and attention spent on both my girls.

:: For the past nine months, I smelt like a walking, opened bottle of dishwashing detergent, or sometime bleach. We have decommissioned the service of a part-time cleaner. I have been doing the mopping, washing, rubbing, folding and changing. SC, my husband, does the vacuuming and decluttering occasionally. We have just realized that home chores are forever an unfinished task, and I've finally decided to out-source.

:: Sometime, I act like a mad dog woman, barking nagging at the television, at poor marks, at ignorance, at terrible messes, at the innocent husband. I miss the days when I was a kangaroo and a cow.

:: Not to mention, I’m a fierce kicker to SC at night. I punch him occasionally. Nope, he doesn’t slap me. He knows pretty well that, I am fighting for more sleep.

I do have a number ten for the list, even number eleven and twelve. After all, it is a long journey and mine has just begun. The truth is, motherhood brings out the curious side of me, the kiasu side of me, the positive side and the toughness in me. It brings me to wonderful people in mommyland. It probably will bring me back to my dream. I don’t know where my journey will lead. I've stopped expecting, I've stopped comparing. I look at the now, I try to listen carefully to my girls, and I realize that they are the most important things in the whole world to me.

“The journey of motherhood taught me very well that we are on our own journey. We’re facing our awesome challenges and taking risks that are just as breathtaking.  …The kids are with us just one time around and then they’re out there…” by Monika Deol,  one of the mothers who shared her story in Between Interruptions .

I can’t agree more.

We, Rock Climbing.

Due to a very attractive calling, we went for rock climbing yesterday. All three of us climbed.Unbelievable!

I don't know what makes me game into rock climbing. I never try it before. I never a sports person. I mean, I like sports, but I took very long time to really play well in badminton, then squash (then someone told me not worth the time for being the best in a game). Anyway, me now? I am 98% being away from rackets and balls these days (the 2% is house chores, don't say it is not counted!). I didn't really ask myself if I can do this or not. I didn't think much after saying yes to Pamela. I was pretty sure of not losing my life (or face) of this. As a mum, the initial thought is really, "Good for the kids to try". Well, I don't mind Bomber try if she was keen. But she wasn't.

Me trying? hmm... maybe not, little Bomber would be clingy to me.

But hey, what if she shows interest to join jiejie to climb too?

Ahem, then... no harm trying, isn't that our way of encouraging our children to strive for a challenge? It would definitely great opportunity to participate in first trying rather than cheering them at the side.

Yup, show jiejie her mum is walk the talk. Make her proud too, for once!

There are two voices inside me. Sometime, they talk too loud to each other that I can't ignore them.

So, we reached. Late! Because little Bomber woke up from her nap a little late, the traffic was moving slowly due to an accident. Best is, we missed a few junctions and drove a longer route to reach instead. But the door was widely opened when we reached the destination. It was soon to be 5pm. Didn't Pamela say the event is only opened from 1 to 5 afternoon?

Sorry, sorry but really glad to see Poppy and Yvonne's husband were in the middle of climbing!
Jiejie, second attempt to climb up. Proud of her!

Looking at others to climb up is a very exciting thing to do there, in a breezing afternoon, if only there was beer for observers and cheer-mummy( kidding). I was super impressed with Yvonne who climbed all the way up to top. She did so well until I felt... maybe I should sit back, admiring others and play with younger kids. However, Mr Chua, the instructor of Beyond Academics came to me and asked me to give it a try. The little fairy of me came out and reminded me that, "it is not nice to reject an invitation from a nice person."

Then, Mr Chua taught me on wearing the harness and shoes, the little wizardess of mine came out and tried to persuade me to take it easy. Just a few step up the wall, right hand was finding a climbing hold to grab, "Hey! Enough of climbing! Let's call it a day! You don't need to climb further!!!"

Mr Chua's voice came into my ears in guiding me up. "Left, try grab the yellow hold."

"I thought your intention was just want to show your daughter the spirit of "Good Try!"" Few more steps up the wall, wizardess started to grumble, "Can't believe it! You are not listening! You are going to hurt yourself, do you know that?!"

Sometime, she does sound like my mum.

"You don't need to try so hard! Do you know that? There isn't prize awarding later!?" When I reached middle of the wall. I couldn't get rid of her.

"Come on! You have enough. Bleah, hands are aching!"

"Back off! She is doing well. Her hands are so strong to pull her up, and up again! Leave her alone to finish the climbing!" The fairy of mine finally came out to confront wizardess.

While they were arguing, I followed Mr Chua's instruction, here and there. It was not easy, in finding the right hold and pull myself up one step after another. When I last grabbed and reached the top, saw the horizon of bluish in front of me, for a moment, I asked myself if i had just completed a new challenge?
 It was surreal.

But I was up there.

And It was amazingly great to stretch my arms and legs, after so long (of idleness)!

Personally, I like what Yvonne said, "It’s nice to do something different and out of our comfort zone. Each time you overcome something you think you can’t achieve, you come out a better person." I totally agree. The great achievement of overcoming something is fabulous! It boosts my confidence level a bit higher(a bit). In many things in life.

I hope to do this, with my family again.

Wordless Me

There is a big project in SMB.
And all the sudden I become one of the the wanted.

Members are encouraged to send in few face expressions for the banner of SMB.

It was not easy to get a good shot.
(The wrinkles are defeating me!)
Lucky me though.
I have Photoshop to touch-up my tired face!
Fun though, after collating so many 'me' together.

Happy mid-week, all=).

Thankful Tuesday: School Holidays

We are having 4 weeks of school holidays. My brain started to work on some program to fill up Jiejie's time. Some one just said it right! Kids' school holiday is parents' busiest time! Ours are home-bound mostly, and I just have to be thankful for many things along the way...

~ having won a giveaway and excellent timing to flip the book and learn through songs with Jiejie. Being a girl, she seems more interested in the beautiful drawings. We are half way through though.

Rainbow Bear's Dinosaur Discovery

~ We had a special guest, J, came over last week for a playdate (the parents were working) and we had a muffin baking session. Unfortunately, the sudden episode of minor stomach flu affected her mood very badly. But like what J's mum was saying, play is the best medicine and she did get her self up and participate part of the process. I was so glad that I didn't call off the playdate, otherwise she will be gloomy and whiny the whole day.

YX, their ex-classmate during their preschool time, who stay at the same block as us, was invited over too. Since my girl lethargically entertaining them, I quickly sought YX's grandma's permission to host J over their place for another fun play while my girl took her rest. I just have to improvise to keep the girls happy!

I actually got the idea of baking session from Cindy. Thank you:)!
"I measure the sugar, you measure the flour, ok?"

~ Grandparents! Who came over to visit us last weekend. Having them together for a meal is luxury to the girls and my self. Look! Grandpa decided to join the little ones on the small table and chairs, and he can't help himself but to voice his concern, "Eat more, will you? You are way too skinny at your age."

The cheeky one replied, "You (are very skinny) too, gong gong!"
"Jiejie, see! I am eating faster than you!"

~ A handy man as daddy, recycled a drawer-cabinet into a little kitchen for the girls. This is his second attempt after I commented the first one was not beautifully executed and compatible to ELC standard. Now, he put me in "thinking corner".
I heart this! Looks like a mobile cart though;p.

Little Bomber spends less time to cling on me. Wonderful, isn't it?!
She is really a happy chef~!

~ Perhaps, I should also thank my self for finally letting my fence down and learn to not sweating the small stuff, especially coming from the kids.

Dancing with the mess.
However, one major incident happened. I lost my purse, together with my staff card, imedical card, identity card, driving license, ATM card, credit cards... I am cardless and feeling very unsecured and hopeless to my self. I wonder, am I overwhelmed with all the juggling until I could not even take good care of my own belongings. I could not even remember where I lost it!

I probably should be grateful for having SC as my husband. He helped to search the whole house like a detective, he eased my mind by saying, "It isn't any big deal", he pointed what need to be done in next few days, what not and off he gone with a jet plane.

How I wish for miracle now if there is any kind soul return my identity card. My identity, that's all I ask for!

~ Mandarin holiday program that is keeping Jiejie busy for just 5 days. Thanks to my boss allows me to report to work late in the morning, so that I can send the girl (and her friend) to class. Best is, having my mum who willing to share half of my load to bring her home via the public transport (while I'm working) after class. It takes special skill to ask a favour from her and at the same time ignore her comments on my way of parenting. I'm just get exhausted sometime, but then again she is tons better than no help!
It's harder than I thought!
~ And a few more playdates coming up while daddy is out of town:)!

Wrapping up, 2011!

Just to sum up my 2011, like previous years did. But first of all, I have to confess that my version of project 365 failed terribly. It stopped short at Jul 2011: Feeding for the longest time till I did another one for jotting Little Bomber's milestone in December (like 2 weeks ago..?!). I was too greedy and wanted to do too many things for the past whole year: fighting with needle and thread, dancing with spatula and mixer, not forgetting constant mind games with my girl(s) on creative conversation and soon to become siblings rivalry. But one thing I have been keeping up is writing the diary! another form of keeping the record of the girls besides digital scrapbookingi.

Good and bad, for juggling so many things. Hubby has to get all the blames when things go wrong.

JAN:
Remarkable start of the year for us to learn (or for my case to re-learn) how to make rice-ball and spent a wonderful time in KL with family and old friends came by one after another to laugh and hug:).

FEB:
Chinese New Year family reunion and celebration. We were surrounded with lots of love and laughter.

MAR:
Marked Little Bomber's first year. Well, marked my 35th birthday too. We had a staycation in JB to celebration hers and my birthday. Nothing much to talk about, I mean my birthday. I thought more about the girls now...

This time of the year, Jiejie participated another round of wushu test, she passed it and elevated into intermediate class.

APR:
Have to pat my self on the back about picking up sewing skill from basic again, and revived the padded seat for the old stroller of ours. Little Bomber officially is an toddler!

MAY:
Unexpectedly, I had to deal with an office crisis and painfully accepted the true fact of Jag's leaving. Life is unpredictable!

JUNE:
Together with my parents, we travelled to Hong Kong for our annual getaway. Delightfully, Little Bomber started to call me "mama", mutterly.

JUL:
Went back to Kulim without exhausted our selves for almost 10 hours of driving. Jiejie made a remarkable statement for our trip. Little Bomber started to attempt and accomplish something new, like feeding her self with porridge.

AUG:
We were daunted by the registration system for local primary school. But honestly, it is a fair game.

SEPT:
This year, I did not post any entry about Jiejie's birthday celebration. But this was the very 1st time, we had it twice: one with her K2 class and another (party) with family members and friends. Well, it was a barbecue and we prepared the food by no-catering service. A big thanks to SC's aunt and Little Bomber's babysitter. I baked a brownie and most of the time, stuck with unwell Bomber. I should digiscrap this wonderful party!

OCT:
Sad to say goodbye to my grandma forever. Life will not be the same any more, for most of us.

NOV:
We attended Jiejie Graduation Concert. Contentedly sighed on her growth and milestone thus far.

And every Saturday, Jiejie attended extra training for an wushu performing early December. I was like a old lady riding on a skating board, tried to control my tone and temper in order to encourage her to join in the group. She was horrified by the momentum of the training, at the same time in doubt of her ability to do well.

DEC:
Well, She completed the wushu show. Could be better, if you wonder. Received the best Christmas gift:), hence embarking a slight different journey with my family.

Conclusion? Life is short, seize the day! And certainly hope I will do it better this year. Slow down perhaps....

Happy New Year, y'all.

walnut brownie

Need a break from stress of dealine.

Hence, featuring this...

I have been making this walnut brownie for 3 times in less than 2 weeks.

1st was testing.
Overwhelmed with the rich chocolate and the successful attempt.

2nd was for the girl's 6th birthday party last Saturday.
Double the ingredients.
A little dry.

3rd was yesterday dawn.
For little Bomber's nanny and family's great help in the party.
Appreciation from the bottom of my heart.

I do wish that the spirit of (baking) enthusiasm will spill over to... now in office.

Back to digging history of work and do my self-appraisal!

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

200g dark cooking chocolate
125g butter
1/2 cup brown sugar
3 eggs, lightly beaten
3/4 cup self raising flour
1/3 cup milk
3/4 cup chopped walnuts

Preheat oven to 180C.
Chop the chocolate into pieces of about 2-3 centimeters.
Chop the butter and add it to the chocolate.

On low heat on the stove, melt the mixture without bubbling.
Remove the mixture from the heat and carefully fold in the brown sugar.
Add eggs, stirring carefully.
Slowly sift in the flour and fold it into the mixture.
Add milk, mixing it in completely.
Add chopped walnuts.

Pour the mixture into a greased medium-sized baking tray lined with baking paper.
Bake in the oven for about 25 minutes.

Remove from the oven and cool in the tin for five minutes,
then turn onto a wire rack until cool and slice into squares.
Dust with icing sugar.

New Addition to the Room

It tooks us a while to move Jiejie out from our room after Little Bomber was born.
Kids' room was then developed.
Bit by bit.
Piece by piece.
For example, the curtains is the latest addition.
I sewn it 2 weeks ago.

Tinker Bell says "Hello..."

I agree that, the fabric isn't really fascinating to the taste of the room,
or mine.
A simple thought was, would it be good for an experiment, if I fail?
But it turned out, to be a joy to see the finishing.
Or perhaps it will serve as a good reminder to be wiser in terms of material selection:).

Good, I have a reason to make another set of curtain for the room.
Twinkle twinkle little stars lid Tinker Bell at night...

Who would have thought there isn't any proper curtain for this room
since we moved in 3 years ago!!!
I cant believe either.
Time flies and I have been procrastinate for the longer time!
Little Bomber's favourite's mobile

The room is laid with 3 mattresses and without it, I would say it is pretty bare.
Mobile in the middle, Jiejie's artworks on one side of the wall and the wall decal on the other side.
Not forgetting a stand fan at 1 corner and another corner cluttered with kids toys and... toys.
It is my favourite mobile too:).

Jiejie's paintings probably is the earlier batch of parasites on the wall.

Jiejie's artworks proudly display in the room.

The Poang armchair that was suppose to be in the living hall brought into the room by me
as I sometime need it to snuggle little Bomber to sleep.
The little bear on the right is Jiejie's baby.

Kids' room is my hiding room, too.

It has been daunting with some unsuccessful and uncertainty of Primary School registration this week.
Snapping pictures and re-organising things in the room somehow heal my disappointment.

As we maybe going through the process of "torturing" for another week or two.
I need to reposition.

When There is Only Little Bomber and Me

...Life seems simpler.

I just need to focus on her needs, stick with her accordingly and well, cook bigger pot of baby food (cause I need to eat too) twice today. I reckon I was too much in the role of mum and wife, too nitty gritty in handling the living of the big boy and the little girl. So much so I feel a lighter self today. I don't need to crack my head of what to prepare for lunch and dinner to attract their appetite; I don't need to repeat my self like a broken CD player at them for doing things that annoy me (ha!); I just think of my self what to eat, what to do and what show to watch. It is just me (and bomber), me (and bomber) and me today! It marvels me! They must be having the same feeling too, get to break away from nagging mama for two days.

I probably exhausted before today? Never think how much alright I am without them. How little I would want to check and call how have they been and enjoy.

They are out of town for "Ching Ming" for about 56 hours. Minus off the working Friday, full Saturday of just Bomber and my self is ...peacefully simpler.

Somehow, I am glad that little Bomber is with me. The fact is she isn't really sticky, it was me who can't devote my whole attention to her. She must be very happy that she owns mama fully today! In fact both of us spend quality time together today. We strolled to market and got her sweet pumpkin and fresh fish meat; trimmed her hair before bathing even though she didn't like it. I literally glued to her most of the time, watching her trying to understand my instruction and improving her walking skill, wobbly though. Best of all, I got a part time cleaner to finish up the dirty work for me! So I have whole full day to make her giggling and giggling to me.

Life is simpler with just little Bomber and me. For once in a blue moon.

So I quickly complete a backlog post:). Best of all, I managed to figure out how to enlarge my image here, wuahahaha!

It reminds me that, life can't be just little Bomber and me for too long.

single handed Saturday

The very first Saturday that I manage the kids outing by my self... as hy has to attend her wushu and piano lesson.SC was off to US that very early morning for his yearly affair...

It was surprisedly "dauntless" for me. Both girls enjoyed the train ride (last ride for hy was in June when we went for Art Garden: Children's Season at the SAM). We arrived HY's wushu class 10 minutes earlier; after handed her to Teacher Ryan, I managed to find a cooling place for my breakfast.
XY was not cranky that morning. She enjoyed her toy and the ambience while i munched my food. It gave me a short moment of sanity somehow...

I stole time to knit and to purl (my long over-due project)... to inhale and exhale; to peep on others and whisper to little Bomber pleasantly.

Soon, she whined... as expected. It was her time to have her breakfast...

As time passed by, little Bomber frowned. Too bored for her to be in the cafe for an hour, I guess.

She dozed off when we returned to wushu centre to pick up hy. I adore every facial reaction of hers^^. She continued sleep through hy's piano lesson.

By 12.30pm, we strolled toward the MRT station, but impromptu decision to go back to the cafe and packed 2 slides of cake to praise the day!

It was short but I am grateful to have such a moment of frown-less with the kids. Single handedly outing with the kids was not as bad as I thought.

Thinking of next outing:)...
