While writing and receiving loves on my earlier post of the Daily Fix, I got the opportunity to chat a little with Julian, the Founder. More on, feedback on his food and coffee we had. I approached him further if he would like to share about his story on the café business, those vintage collections, his effort, his vision and what not. I mean, how clever is he to hunt and keep those antiques and oldies? Making them as part of his life beautifully is another great success. He must have some secret!
Here’s his reply:
Here’s his reply:
The
enamel plates on the wall is still uncompleted, apparently. And the cabinet that is used
to display their Tiffin carriers at the far end in the picture below. Y'know what?! My grandma had two of this kind of cabinet! I used it too, when I (10 years old) was staying with my grandma. Julian is right that, during those days, we stored left over food. I remember it, vividly.
And now the cabinets are with my uncle, serving the family perfectly still!
Thanks Julian for the sharing=). I reckon, his secret is his passion to the place and each and every element of the oldies. Sincerely hope Jonker Street keeps its warmth and remain its original charm as much as it can. Through the Daily Fix, I hope to return and reminisce the sentiment I have with Old Malacca in many years to come.
Wishing you and The Daily Fix all the best, Julian!
