We travel back to Kuala Lumpur from Singapore to visit my family, at least thrice a year. Hence, SC and I would bring the girls pop by Malacca whenever we could, just to be a day or two of wondering wanderers. Malacca maybe now a very tourist hotspot, it is still a new adventure place to the girls, many to see, many to think about and learn. We also think that it is a living book for us to read and get to walk our history physically.
[Ok, the true is adult us love the food there, cheap and authentic].
Usually, we would pick off-peak season to visit the centre of Malacca city. It is always jam-packed during weekends and public holidays, on the road especially. Traffic congestion gets worst after listed as UNESCO heritage site. Good and bad I guess. I don't like crowd, and frankly we can't afford to spend more on the accommodation. Y'know, they charge more during peak seasons. (And they charge almost half the price when it is off-peak.)
..............................................
So, after we had enough of wandering (and books), we went to The Daily Fix.
We didn't go into the cafe when we passed this the very first time. The frontage of "another souvenirs shop" didn't attracted us to walk-in to explore. It was my daughter's request to return to this cafe to fix her thirstiness. She noticed I had snapped the picture of the frontage of the shop earlier when we were wandering. At first, she wasn't sure, tried to describe the shop to convince us to find it. I was completely confused as I took too many photos. In the end, she took my camera and flipped back the preview of the photos I took, pointed at this photo (below) and said, "Go back here"!
Her intuition was amazing! It was another surprise we found! The space inside the shop is so huge that, two businesses are co-existed spaciously, two courtyards found inside the cafe!
This is not air-conditioned entirely, purely relying on the courtyards. Natural air ventilation as well as sunlight, which make this place very unsophisticated and vital- for retaining the inherent spirit and origin ambiance of the built heritage.
The exquisite wall of nostalgia enamel (nyonya) trays is the highlight here, I believe!
There is a water well in the courtyard! Have you seen a real water well before? We brought the curious Bomber into the well!
Me again... in the water.
That dial-up phone boost, must be a great hunt by the cafe owner. There are too many beautiful, vintage furniture and decoration in the cafe well thought and displayed or used. I was absolutely thrilled to be there.
If you are visiting Jonker Street, don't miss this place! You will be teleported back to 70s!
