This was an impromptu trip. As in we were chatting about shopping and then decided to make a weekend trip to Bangkok 3 weeks prior.
Departure on Friday after work and return on Sunday night. Practically, we only had 1 full day in Bangkok. So, it was just SHOP [verb: visit one or more shops to buy goods.]
Though it was only the three of us. (Previous trip had more friends joined)
We were targeting Platinum Fashion Mall, so due to proximity, I picked Berkeley Hotel Pratunam. (Actually, because of last minute planning, this was the cheapest offer in Agoda.)
In our opinion, Glow Pratunam Hotel that we stayed previously had better room design and ambiance (this time, Glow Hotel was fully booked).
Bangkok, as always, high traffic volume, vehicular as well as pedestrian. It was scorching weather too, but luckily we just wanted to do shopping, by foot.
Here (above), we did what tourist do- snapping away. It was taken at the roadside of Ratchadamri Road, on our way from Berkeley Hotel to Big C Supercenter. We wanted to buy some local tomyum instant noodle (we bought a carton!) and snacks.
Before that, we passed by some food outlets and we decided to try this 莊益成 (not sure its name in Thai, not seen any English translated name either), the roast duck noodles looked very tempting to us.
And it was REALLY yummy! With 3 cups of local coffee, the breakfast meal of three bowls of noodle costed us just THB200! We went back the next day for lunch, which cost us another THB250.
These (above) were us eating again, at Yum Saap, Level 6 of Platinum Mall. It was impossible for us to leave the mall (so much to shop!) if not the grouchy tummy. Two plates of basil minced meat/prawn with white rice and one Tomyum noodle and a coke cost us THB355.
The Mall has 2000 plus shops and things were so cheap to buy (after conversion), though many of them were not allow to try on prior to payment. That's why shopping with friends in this case was more than fun- we consulted each other and gave honest opinions. My friends have very good fashion sense and understand body figure and shape well, they bought much much more than I did. I confess, I love shopping, but I don't buy thing impulsively and I am aware that I don't need a lot of clothing. This trip, for me was more than just shopping, it was another meet-up with my old friends, another chat and another good time together. We don't see each other as often as we used to be but we are forever friends.
See my yellow bag of purchase versus my friend's (blue plastic bag and another hidden behind me) in the end of the day... lol
Anyway, the Mall closed at 7pm. Thereafter roadside stalls started to open business which similarly offer wide range of fashion merchandise. We shopped till we dropped...
Love the photo below of my friend, who is a doting mum, deciding what design and how many to buy for her son.
For that long day of shopping, we ended it with a good foot/body massage. It was almost midnight.
ahhhhh Girly Shopping TRIP! It's always nice and coming home rejuvenated will keep us going for a litttttle bit longer =)
ReplyDeleteOh yes! I am so fueled now~~ can ignore the GSS around me some more lol.
DeleteI LOVE impromptu and whirlwind trips like these, especially if it's with our favourite girlfriends! Thai exchange rate is really to our favour now! Makes me so tempted to go Thailand at the end of the year.
ReplyDeleteY'know, I didn't know that impromptu trip can be so exciting and fun! Probably because no kids and the associated issues to think about lol.
Deletefun trip:) #city tripping
ReplyDeleteI begin to get very obsess with shopping now, start to think of next shopping trip, omg!
DeleteI love a spontaneous trip - i'm so used to having my daughter with me that I barely go shopping like that any more. #citytripping
ReplyDeleteÌ can related. I did not shop for a long while until recently heheee.
DeleteI'm sooo jealous that you can go to Bangkok for the weekend. A shopping trip there with the girlies sounds fantastic.... So many bargains to be had. I'm a big fan of Thai food too so sounds pretty close to a perfect weekend! Thanks for linking to #citytripping
ReplyDeleteLol. Indeed, it was a great weekend!
DeleteThis looks like a lot of fun, and I totally agree with what you said about it being more about spending time with friends than actually purchasing stuff. I found trying to shop in Bangkok utterly overwhelming - there were just too many options!
ReplyDeleteAnd I saw many non-Thai-speaking shoppers carrying luggage instead a big tote bag like me. They must be seasoned shoppers to the Mall.
