Review: De Hygienique

November is ending and it is this time of the year that I need to spring clean my house. And for one very reason, mattresses and its related items, sofa and any other upholstery would not be included to the list of things to clean. Ops!

It is cumbersomely inconvenience, see!?

So when I was approached by De Hygienique to do a sponsored post of their services, I began to think of them, mattresses and sofa... how well have them been? It has been 5 years since we moved into this house with all the furniture. I reckoned, it is the time that mattresses and sofa to be cleaned for the first time. Now that it is coming to me, perhaps I should see how exactly it helps me? Especially it mentions that there is an in-built UV light works in disinfecting the mattresses.

I remember long time ago, younger me used to be ordered by my mother to carry the mattresses, blankets, pillows and bolsters, even sofa cushions to sun outside our house, yearly, at least. Back then, mattresses were not as bulky as now, but, it would be dreadful if Mr Sun decided a sudden shift of duty with Ms Rain.

Sounds like De Hygienique is my old pal
"De Hygienique is Singapore's leading soft furnishing cleaning service provider, specialising in cleaning and sanitising of mattress, carpet/rug and upholstery. They are the first professional cleaning service provider in Singapore to introduce soft furnishing cleaning treatment using 100% dry, or low moisture, and chemical safe cleaning technologies from Europe."
So, yes, I was curious enough to take up the offer, find out and learn about latest technology able to bring Mr Sun home to serve... me. Professionally.

Upon the arrival of De Hygienique's team of three, they promptly asked for the location of the mattresses and pinpoint to confirm the sofa that was asked to clean. Very professional and waste no time.

As my girls are my concern of all, I asked De Hygienique to clean the mattresses from my girls' room, instead of mine. All I wanted was the cleaning service could thoroughly remove embedded dirt, dust particles, dead skin flakes and effectively eliminate micro-organisms and allergens. So what exactly is 100% Dry and Chemical Free Treatment?
"During De Hygienique’s mattress cleaning treatment, the mattress will undergo a pulverization process where the embedded clumped up dirt will be vibrated into finer particles which will then be extracted into tightly woven HEPA filter bag. During the cleaning treatment, the mattress will be sanitized using an in-built UV-C light that was specially designed for the purpose to disinfect the mattress.
Finally the cleaned mattress will be sanitized again with a chemical safe solution that will help delay the re-infestation of dust mites in the mattress."
It makes sense to me, UV light to kill bacteria and vacuum to extract dirt and dust at the same time, in layman's terms. And, apparently children's bed has less dirt particles and micro-organisms. The one that being selected for demonstration is rather new mattress, as in 2 to 3 years old. Below shows the amount of dust attracted in about a minute of extraction.

Frankly, I was kind of relieve to see the demonstration. It was not as bad as I thought of.

The machine is able to extract particles up to 4-inches deep. After cleaning the top side of the mattress, they will flip the mattress over and do the same for the other side. Lastly, the mattress is sanitised with the Potema sanitising spray, which consists of disinfectant alcohol and pure orange oil. The room was refreshing immediately after the worker sanitised the mattresses, pillows and even kids' soft toys.

Oh, there is a seal for each mattress, indicates the date of the sanitation, it will come in handy if I need reference to make another appointment after 6 months.

While someone was cleaning the mattresses in the bedroom, there was another staff tasked to clean our two-seater sofa in the living room. The sofa was first moved onto a canvas, then cleaned with an industrial grade vacuum to remove embedded dust and dirt particles. After the vacuum, the sofa underwent through a thorough low moisture shampooing process, including its base-structure. Finally sanitisation to eliminate bacteria and allergens.

I like the fact that, this treatment takes 30 mins to complete, and it needs minimum drying time and no fabric shrinkage.

The price? Ranging from $120-$180 for a two-seater sofa. Find out more about their pricing of mattress, carpet and sofa from here.

My verdict? This is sure better than owning a gigantic cleaning vacuum cleaner my self and do the cleaning periodically. I will probably call them again end of next year.
