Prior to the visit, I did not know anything about Callander. We were here because my dear husband suggested me to have a pit-stop somewhere near Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park. Not very helpful, because it could mean we stay a night in the freezing forest park.
[You can check (click in to zoom in) my map below, Callander was the first pit-stop we had after we left Edinburgh. Isle of Skye was our ultimate direction to head to]

So I looked around the region of Stirling. For a very long while, I satisfied with my finding of one rated-8.1/10 accommodation in Callander via Booking.com. Despite the rating and the pricing of the accommodation, Callander was less than 2 hours drive from Edinburgh or just another less-than-an-hour drive from Falkirk Wheel, for our case.

The beds were very inviting. |
My reservation with the Hotel was one family suit one night for 2 adults and 2 children, with breakfast included. But we gotten two very lovely rooms (shared one bathroom) instead. I was not required to pay until our arrival and check-in.

View of Main Street from our room |
Peaceful, even though facing the main street.
We headed out to wander the town after dumping our luggage into the Hotel room.
The Main Street (as part of A84 in road network), keeping the traditional buildings, connecting from Stirling to the Western Highlands. It filled with variety of eatery shops and souvenir shops. It was late afternoon, most of them were closed.

Ancaster Square behind them. |

One of those beautiful sunny & windy day. |
The town was so tranquil and we had a wonderful relaxing walk. We came to a pond, or a lake, or part of River Teith... there was a sign indicate "Post Office Pool" though. Anyway, it was adjacent to the Meadow of Callander. The entire landscape was spectacularly breathtaking!
The girls fed the birds (or the ducks). I was just seating at the bench to enjoy the idyllic surroundings.
We were not sure why the water from the pond/lake/river overflowed towards turfing and some part of the parking area.
We continued our walk in venturing the place. We detoured due to the water and hoping to reach the playground.
But because of the the access path into the playground was also affected by the water, they left the place disappointedly.

Dinner (left); Breakfast (right) |
We headed back to hotel for dinner. The food was great! So great that, I forgotten to snap before we started to gulp down them! Same as to the Scottish breakfast that they served the next day. Dinner was not part of the hotel stay, the breakfast yes. For the first time, we tried the black pudding, we didn't like it.

As mentioned, it is less than two hours from Edinburgh to Callander, about 45-55 minutes from Falkirk Wheel to Callander.
Though we were in Callander less than 24 hours, but we loved it. As you can see, we had the town all by ourselves, almost!
Detail map of Callander here.
Address of The Waverley Hotel: 88-94 Main Street, Callander PERTHSHIRE FK17 8DB.
We booked the Family Suite at the price of £95, via Booking.com, included breakfast for all of us. I believe you will get better deal directly from the Hotel's website.

This is beautiful! I LOVE exploring small towns when on vacations. The streets look so quiet. And the price of Waverley Hotel looks very reasonable for a family suite - with breakfast some more!
ReplyDeleteThanks for assuring the hotel rate, haa!
DeleteI love the old architecture of the buildings here, and good on you for trying the black pudding! Thanks for joining in #wednesdaywanderlust, I'm a bit late commenting but I was travelling so I figured that was a good excuse :)
ReplyDeleteIm glad that we've tried it too. We tried haggis as well, and we kind of like it;).
DeleteCant wait to read about your traveling !
We stayed in a hotel similar to the one that you did. I have to tell you that it was everything we thought it would be. The service was amazing, the room was spotless, and the front desk staff did anything to make sure our stay was memorable. They even sent a bottle to our room for our 25th wedding anniversary when they heard that was why we were in town.
